Day 1: Introduction/Value of Money :Poem (Smart by Shel Silverstein) Clip of Shel Silverstein reading the poem (incorporating technology) :Cut out of a piggy bank (folder) Where student keeps all work and projects. The students will color the pig and decorate their folders to make it their own. How to make pig::: Use die cut in CMC, Use projector to enlarge it and trace it to make the pig to put on the folders, pass 2 out to each student. Day 2: History of Money :Handout assorted pictures of money and its evolution throughout history :Also handout a timeline:: Have students place the pictures in what they think is the correct time period is that the money was used :Discuss and explain which money was used in which time period :Once reviewed, have students glue pictures onto timeline >OR to integrate technology have students create timeline on kidspiration Day 3: Ways of Making/Saving Money :Timecard Day 4: Learning Checks :Show an actual checkbook... explain to students what checkbooks are used for and when checks are used. :Activity... using smartboard... upload a big view of a check, model the way to write on a check and where each aspect of a check is written.. :Give each student a page of checks and give them practice problems to practice writing checks and using a checkbook. Day 5: Activity/Store OR Classroom rummage sale
